SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH OF LOS ANGELES

UPDATES FROM OUR PASTOR

Pastor's video message for the 135th virtual Anniversary Observance for September 6, 2020

Congratulations on a virtual observance of our church's Anniversary as a congregation of believers in Christ. Organized in 1885 we have had an uninterrupted presence in the Los Angeles community for 135 years, 3 months, and 8 days.  Said another way we have be witnessing to the powerful pervasive Presence of the Lord in our lives for 1,623.8 weeks, 7020.6 months and 49,424 days.   "We have come this far by faith leaning on the Lord and the Lord has never failed us yet."

Those who have preceded us have passed the baton to us to continue the legacy of this fellowship of faith.  Just as they faced their challenges, we face ours.  We have been living with the directives and restrictions occasioned by the pandemic Covid-19, an economic crisis and racial injustice to name a few.  You have met these challenges with commitment, courage and conviction.  I thank God for your faithfulness as we manage to sustain our fellowship of faith through the uncertainty that we face.  I am also appreciative for the committees of persons who work tirelessly in making sure that we maintain our presence through the radio broadcast, the website, the zoom calls for Sunday School, Prayer, Bible Study and meetings.  I thank God for all for you. Let your faith help you continue to forge ahead ingeniously through hindrances.

In the first epistle of John chapter 4, verse 4, John wrote to believers in Christ to caution them against false teaching about Christ and encourage them to remain steadfast in the faith about what they had been taught about the love of God expressed in Christ. He told them,  "You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."   (Christian Standard Bible).  We know in whom we have believed and are persuaded that we will be kept to paraphrase II Timothy 1:12.

Continue with the faith which has brought you from the past to the present to guide you into the future.  We are on our way to inherit the promise God plans: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  (Jeremiah 29:11).

God bless and keep you.  God make his face to shine upon your and be gracious unto you.  God life up his countenance upon you and give you peace.  Numbers 6:24-25
